Anyone who has Instagram will surely have heard of Tarte Cosmetics. It is a brand that has taken advantage of, and established itself well on the social media scene. And with all these beauty influencers/gurus constantly raving on about it, of course we mere beauty enthusiasts wish to see what all the fuss is about. Here is where our frustration kicks in: it is so difficult to get a hold of in the UK!!!! GRRR! The woes of not having a Sephora over here – a whole other topic, don’t even get me started!
So, I was overjoyed when I heard that Sephora Middle East, more specifically, the Sephora in Dubai were launching Tarte! I am lucky enough to travel to Dubai often and one of the first matters I attend to is a visit to Sephora. Thus, you can imagine my excitement when I saw this news, and already had a trip to Dubai booked! I made a list of the products I was desperate to get my hands on, i.e. the most talked about and recommended by all the Instagram makeup experts I follow.
When I finally arrived in Sephora Dubai Mall, I was initially overjoyed at the sight of the Tarte counter but my joy was soon replaced by dismay at the range available. The first thing the sales advisor said when she saw my face drop was “you’re looking for the Shape Tape Concealer?” Clearly, she has been asked the same question over and over, and can you blame us? THE most talked about product and it wasn’t launched there? WHY?!
However, I soon overcame this and started sampling the products that were available. I ended up getting the Amazonian Clay full coverage foundation in Medium Neutral, the Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Medium and the Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse in Medium Brown. Sairish also got the same three products and Sana got the Brow Mousse.
I think its safe to say I have thoroughly tested the products I purchased. I wore all 3 products during my flight to Pakistan, which meant that I had the same makeup on for over 24 hours (not good, I know but the circumstances were just so…). My family kept commenting on the fact that my makeup was still in place whereas theirs had more or less come off. I also wore it almost everyday whilst I was in Pakistan, where my face was sweating in the 38-40 degree heat and still it did not budge. The foundation is described as being 12-hour makeup but when put to the test, it can last much longer. It also has SPF 15 sunscreen, which is a bonus! It literally is the perfect base to wear when you want an extra long lasting, full coverage, no-matter-what stay in place look.
I’ve done a whole section dedicated to texture because this is another aspect I am really impressed with. The brow mousse is literally so soft and easy to work, and super pigmented so a small amount goes a long way. I have found the texture so much easier to work with than the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade that I have been using for 2 years prior to this. The only downside is that there is nowhere near the colour range that ABH offers (only 5 options if I remember correctly). Even the texture of the foundation is worth mentioning because it also has a moussey feel to it, which means that despite the fact that it is such perfect full coverage, it doesn’t feel heavy or cakey. I have also found that it has not caused any breakouts, like many other full coverage foundations usually cause. In terms of the texture of the concealer, I do feel as though it feels much thicker and heavier than some of the other concealers I have used but it stays in place and really hides those eyebags/dark circles. Still, I only use it when I want full coverage because of the heaviness.
Again, I am thoroughly impressed with the perfect match that the foundation turned out to be. The sales assistant did try to sell me a shade darker but I insisted that it would be too dark (she was matching according to my colour after I had been on holiday for 2 weeks!). I went with Medium Neutral, which, according to the packaging is for medium skin with yellow and pink undertones. Both Sairish and I got this colour and we were both happy with how well it matched our skin colour. The fact that it caters for skin with yellow and pink undertones is quite unique and I think it is due to this that it is such a good match. The concealer is also just the right colour to conceal and brighten dark circles under the eyes, without looking grey or ashy. Sairish always complains about her dark circles and usually finds it difficult to find a concealer which covers them properly, but she also loved the Tarte concealer. All three of us were happy with the brow mousse. Although there was only a few colour options, the medium brown was perfect for all 3 of us, which we didn’t expect as all of us have slightly different shades and thickness.
The price point is average for luxury-brand makeup. The foundation was approximately £30, the concealer around £23 and the brow mousse which included a double-ended brush was approx. £24 when converted into sterling from dirhams.
I think its clear that all three of us were super happy with the products we purchased and are desperate to try more Tarte products. I literally have such a long list of products I want to try, but I refuse to order online, as I prefer to colour swatch and match in person. I am eagerly awaiting my next trip to Dubai OR Tarte becoming available in shops in the UK. Either will do!
